Vrije Akademie, Den Haag, Netherlands, 2007

we ran a workshop at the free academy alongside the show, GreenZone/Red Zone, art students and regular citizens turned up to cut up and experiment with a print of the soldier kicking the door of an Iraqui's home - we had used the sme image in making Soldier #1
students from the Vrije Akademie and other local art colleges work their own ideas around the soldier prints we gave them to play
When we show work in public galleries and institutions we try and organize workshops based around the work. The workshops encourage people to realise their skills to cut images together and find a way to respond to the world using the same images they see everyday, mediated through news media and advertising. We are bombarded by images and exhortations to gobble up corporate product. Through cutting, pasting and montaging both manually and digitally, people who have no training in art can visualize their own position in relation in the manipulations of news, media and the 24/7 swamp of consumerism. Acting on the images of corporate power is an integral part of the process of taking on the powerful and voicing a visual NO.
